The first full weekend in June means fun and excitement in the Flint Hills region of Kansas as this is the weekend of the Flint Hills Rodeo, located in Strong City Kansas. This year marks the 70th annual rodeo, bringing in up to 15,000 spectators to Strong City, population of less than 700. Events include bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, calf roping, bull riding, team roping, and WPRA barrel racing. This is the oldest consecutive rodeo in Kansas, beginning in 1937, then known as the Chase County Rodeo. The current rodeo arena, built in the 1940s remains largely unchanged.
